Broken Hip
On January 16th, my wife sustained an injury that cracked her pelvis.
She fell backwards onto the living room floorboards and felt pain every
time she moved her right leg. Sitting didn't hurt, but the pain was so
severe that she couldn't walk or stand. My wife was reluctant to call an
ambulance, but the pain was so severe that I did. It was decided that she
would be admitted to the Shirakawa Kosei Hospital, and I was asked to drive
there, so we went there. An X-ray revealed that she had a cracked pelvis
and would require surgery. There were no doctors available to perform surgery
here, so we were transferred to Aizu Central Hospital in Aizuwakamatsu
City.
The day before February 3rd, the doctor explained the situation to us
using X-rays and other images, and asked for my consent to surgery. We
agreed, thinking that surgery would allow the bone to heal more quickly
than if it were to heal naturally. The surgery was performed the next day,
and she returned from the operating room around 1:00 p.m. I heard the details
over the phone from the nurse in charge.
The doctor didn't tell me what kind of surgery was performed. I wonder
if they used a special adhesive and temporarily fixed the area with metal
to prevent it from moving. Surgery will likely be necessary to remove the
metal at some point.
Recently, there have been many patients with influenza or something similar
in the Aizu region, and as a result, this hospital has continued to prohibit
visitors. I would like to check on my wife, but the nurses have told me
that I cannot visit. We have been exchanging information through letters.
It would take more than three hours by car from here in Yamatsuri to Aizuwakamatsu,
where the hospital is located, and the Aizu region is likely to experience
heavy snowfall, making driving difficult. By train, I could travel from
Higashidate Station on the local Suigun Line to Koriyama Station, and then
take the Ban'etsu West Line to Aizuwakamatsu Station. This way, including
transfer time, the journey takes just over three hours. Once the ban on
visitors is lifted, I plan to travel by JR to visit my wife. 2026.2
